If you have a MAC and want to use this product, ensure you have the latest version of JAVA (download from APPLE icon in upper left corner and select “software update”). If you have the most recent version you won’t have a selection for JAVA. Deselect everything else as it will take more time to download. Once that is done, go to [...] and download the MAC software. Once that is downloaded, double click on the file. It will open to an icon’d item (flag) and another file. Double click on the flag, say yes to opening it. This should open the bushnell neo installer. Click on the sync installer first and follow the directions. Don’t change anything. Once that is done then click on the USB driver. If it wants to restart the computer, STOP. Click back on the installer screen and select the serial driver button. If it doesn’t want to restart then finish with the serial driver. After you do that then select the restart button mentioned earlier. After it restarts you may/may not have an icon (it’s a flag with the number 3 on it). If not, use your FINDER and type “bushnell”. Double click on the icon for Busnell Neo Sync. This should start up the application and have should be searching for the Neo. Plug in the Neo to a port and turn it on. The searching line should go from searching to connected. If you are not a member you will have to join before downloading course info. Go to the Tab for GPS download and look for the course you want. Select it for download and it will go to the computer first. Then you send it to the Neo.

The biggest problem I had was with not having the latest version of JAVA and not loading the programs in the correct sequence (app sync, usb, driver).

The toll free number worked fine too. I found that if I allowed the message to walk me through to connecting to a tech, I got a lot faster response than pushing the numbers early (I knew what the number to connect was based on the initial phone call).

I haven’t tried the device on the course but a buddy of mine says he likes it. I may update this after I’ve played a few rounds.

I received this device and tried to install it in my new Windows Vista 64 computer. It comes with Vista 64 drivers. Don’t try this yourself at home. It is hazardous to your health and will not work. After numerous attempts, de-installs and re-installs it did not work. I felt stupid when I read other reviews that said it would not work on Vista 64, packaged it up and got a return ticket from Amazon. I decided to call Bushnell support in the morning. The tech was very seasoned and helped me to install the device in about 30 minutes after deleting Java and reinstalling it and opening just the right file in the right order, which is like assembling a trick jigsaw puzzle. But he was an expert…I’m sure he has a lot of experience. The Bushnell tech support was awesome. The guy was good and believe me he needs to be. I easily downloaded a few courses and have used the device a couple rounds now. I think its a nice little device for the price and helps me enormously with the yardage. I played 18 holes yesterday and it worked flawlessly and was still at 80% charge.

The installation instructions are the worst I have ever seen, a real nightmare. My brother worked for a GPS company for a year and tells me these devices have an incredible markup. For the low price of this device and the bare bones info it provides on the course, I am satisfied. It’s more than I had before and helps with club selection. I’m happy I kept it.

They don’t tell you when you pay $$$ for this little unit that it does not work until you get it out of the box, hook it up and then you have to cough up another $40 for an “annual membership upgrade”. You cannot download one GPS course unless you do this. The so-called “Free Membership” is worthless. So you end up having to pay almost $200. Better off to have bought a scope. This is like someone selling you the razor and then when you want blades, they failed to mention that would be extra. Suggest reading the fine print…but there wasn’t any.

This is a nice GPS device for the course. I’ve used it for a few weeks now, and it has always been accurate when comparing the distances with the course markings. It aquires the satellite signal quickly, and it’s easy to navigate through the menus. I’ve had no problems with screen visibility, and it’s easy to read the numbers. The battery life is great. I’ve played 54 holes so far and the battery reads 60% remaining.

I downgraded it to four stars because it’s not perfect. It is not waterproof, which most of the time is not an issue. But, I played in the rain last week, and had to keep it in my bag for fear of getting it wet. Also, the plastic belt clip is pretty much useless. I use a piece of velcro tape to keep it secured to my pull cart. It would be nice if it had a better way to attach it to the golf bag.

If all you are looking for from a golf GPS is yardage, and you don’t need images or a big screen, I highly recommend this unit.

The Neo fits in a pocket and is ready for instant use. I like the small size and find it has the yardages I need without a lot of extra information. Great product.
