Weight Training for Women's Golf - As editor of golfgurls.com, I asked my golf fitness guru, Kathy Ekdahl to check out this book. Result: High praise from one fitness trainer to another. Highly recommended.

Golf fitness was just a mere twinkle in the eyes of fitness trainers until Tiger Woods came along. His work ethic and golf specific fitness training helped propel him to the top of the golf world, and helped to create the golf fitness industry as we know it today. Annika Sorenstam was equally responsible for promoting fitness for golf, so it is appropriate that Annika's trainer, Kai Fusser, wrote this detailed golf fitness guide, Weight Training for Women's Golf- The Ultimate Guide. Having just finished writing my own golf fitness ebook, this was a great opportunity for me to read what the experts working with professional golfers say about golf fitness.

Weight Training for Women's Golf is truly an exercise encyclopedia. Kai Fusser covers the basics of exercise science in a very general format so that the golfer first gains an understanding of the basic principles which they need to apply to their workouts. As a trainer, this information is too basic for me, and I wonder if it may be too basic for some readers as well? I guess it all depends on the readers exercise experience. However, Kai gives a lot of great information that is always good to review. This portion of the book takes 86 pages to discuss, so it does comprise almost half the books content.

The main area of interest for me, and I would assume the average golfer, is the exercises themselves. Here, Kai incorporates many of the latest techniques in strength and conditioning that I use with my clients. However, one area of controversy is in how he teaches proper abdominal work. Kai teaches the golfer to "draw in" the abs, also called hollowing. Many trainers feel this technique does not engage the entire core and thus, they will teach another technique called "bracing". This is getting picky- but it is an important distinction when it comes to back health. I also have some issues with the over emphasis on shoulder and arm training. While I understand that women need strengthening of the arms and shoulders, most women I see already OVER train these areas and neglect more important areas like the chest mid back, hips and legs. Readers need to realize that the arms and shoulders get significant work in exercises that work the chest and back as well.

Kai suggests a 4 or 5 day split routine throughout the off season, and this is something that has been proven to be less effective than whole body training or upper and lower body split training. Women need to train every body part 2-3x/week, as we lose muscle strength more rapidly than men. This is why splitting up the body through the week is not necessarily recommended anymore. But, aside from this and a few other exercises which I may not necessarily be fond of, Kai does a great job of skillfully explaining all the exercises, including power and strength exercises, myofascial release work, medicine ball exercises and swing fault exercises.

The scope of this book does not allow for individual programming, so the reader needs to be cautious when choosing the appropriate exercises for their fitness level. Many of the golfers I see have specific areas of weakness, and these areas need to be addressed first, getting them up to speed, before trying some of the more advanced exercises in this book. Without addressing the weaknesses, injuries could occur. But we risk that with any exercise instruction book. It would make sense for the readers to hire a professional trainer to review proper form and technique to compliment what they learn from this excellent book.

I highly recommend this book for any golfer who is serious about getting healthy and improving their golf game.

Finally (only in the order the books were presented to me) is an instructional product for women golfers... Weight Training for Women's Golf by Kai Fusser, M.S. Fusser worked with Annika Sorenstam as her personal trainer for over 10 years. It was during that period that her strength, fitness and achievements on the golf course skyrocketed. He has worked with many other world class athletes in sports other than golf also. His approach may be universally applied to all ages and abilities.

Fusser's book provides a very easy to follow regimen and explanation of what he wants you to achieve through his program. Women of all ages will benefit from this program even if they don't play golf. Weight training done the proper way with the proper understanding of form and execution will allow you to develop improved flexibility and strength. For me this means better endurance and hopefully, more length and control over my shots.

What I am writing about here is my perception of the book. Personally I have not been able to test his exercises and program to give you my own results. I had surgery shortly after receiving a copy of this book for review and am still rehabbing. Once I am released to do more aggressive training this book will be at my side.

The only disappointment I have with the book is that the majority of the photos depicting the exercises are taken of males. Given the number of females Kai has worked with and...the title of this book...I would think that showing women doing the exercises as described would be a more logical approach to this training program. Other than that I think the program presents a well balanced and segmented approach to achieving the results you want at the level your own level.

Once I give it a go I will be back to share my results.

This is very good golf DVD lessons. Its clear, easy to understand and very practical. Also Tom Watson shows tips from his dad and another professional players. If you need a good material to learn more about this game I think this is the DVD.

Tom Watson's Lessons of a Lifetime is a great tutorial video. You can save yourself some time and hardships by watching this video. I would recommend this to golfers of all skill levels.

Overall, this watch is great. I've used it snow shoe camping, mountaineering, hiking, running, biking and bragging! ;)

Cons:
The GPS can take upwards of 5+ minutes to "Lock On" to the satellites. I usually put it on the "1 second fix" setting before turning on the GPS, then once it's locked on change it back to "1 minute fix" or "manual" depending on my activity. Once it's obtained an initial lock, subsequent locks seem to be faster.

Battery life on the 1 second fix setting is low, 6 hrs, just as advertised. But for most of my activities, the 1 minute or manual fix options provide plenty of battery life.

The watch offers a lot of features and as such there's a learning curve. Expect to spend a few hours playing with it.

The user manual could use some work...

The watch is not compatible with the mac version of TOPO!

You can't pull your track log directly from TOPO! (pc version). You have to pull the log using Trek Manager, export to a txt file, then import into TOPO!. This probably isn't the watches fault but instead TOPO!s.

Pros:
Once the GPS is locked on, it will track you anywhere. It works great in deep forest. It works great on the top of or in the shadows of mountains. It works in a car. It works in the city. I've never not had it work, except indoors, but then why would you use a GPS inside?

The navigation function for following pre-set routes and finding waypoints is great. Even better is the track back feature. It also provides quite a few in-flight statistics that are often helpful in estimating arrival time, duration, course error, etc.

I really like the sun rise, sun set feature. I wish this feature had an alarm, but since the watch has 3 alarm settings it's not too hard to manually set sun rise/set alarms. I wish it had tide and moon rise/set info as well.

The altimeter/barometer/temp work well, though i'm not a heavy user of these features but they serve my purposes fine.

Summary:
I really like this watch. But keep in mind it's a watch and cannot be expected to outperform handheld units. For me, using this in conjunction with a map & compass has worked out great as it helps provide that sanity check on position. I feel confident enough with this watch that I could navigate in a blizzard and make it back again. In fact, I did just that last week.

Not Very Durable, March 24, 2009

I have been researching this watch since the X9i(first model) . I guess I expected too much. The first watch that I had was sent back because the barometer went out as well as the face steaming up. All I exposed it to was a car wash and normal shower. Not what I expected for $400+ watch. Sent it back and got another one. Within a week the coating used on the black part of face is flaking off. I looked at every review and still ordered the watch. I love the look of the watch and make no mistake it is very cool. I wanted it to wear everyday because of the large face and it looks cool. I would just like to caution everyone else. It is not very durable, and this was a lot of money for me. I really thought because of the high price and the rugged look, I would not have to worry about it. That is not the case. I find myself constantly checking it after it gets wet to make sure it is not fogged up. I like the watch it just lacks some durability issues for everyday wear. If you are a gadget guy or girl you will like the watch, just be aware that it is not a timex and does not handle be bumped and beat around very well. I also forsee some issues with the seals, they do not fit well. If you are even remotely hard on watches, I would not purchase this watch if you are looking for an everyday watch. Hope this helps someone else.
2nd posting---
This is my second posting and I am on my 3rd X10mi. Like I have said before this watch is way cool, but lacks some real work. My 1st watch fogged up, my second one fell apart and the third one is being sent back in the morning, because the bezel keeps popping off. If you buy it from an authorized dealer you can keep sending them back (at least for 2 years) but what happens after that? Do not buy this watch. I went through these reviews and saw the same type of reviews as the one I am typing. I over looked them because I loved the watch and thought that won't happen to me they must have got a bad one or they are just picky. Trust me I am just an average Joe and this thing breaks like crazy! Beware!

This watch was a great purchase for the first few weeks that I had it; as far as functionality it has performed superbly. A few weeks after I purchased this watch (the X10 Military) I deployed to Iraq and planned on using this watch with my work in the Army here.

The watch has continued to serve fairly well, until I had about 2 months in country. The bezel/upper-case (a flexible rubber ring) is only attached by two rubber flanges that fit into the hard plastic body of the watch. First (at about 60 days) one of the flanges failed, then in another 30 days, the second flange failed. I have been able to superglue the bezel back onto the case (and probably voided the warranty, but I can't wait months to get this back and forth) but I am very dissapointed that a watch that cost me $500.00 USD and is listed as a "military" model, cannot handle exposure to the elements on my wrist for less than 3 months.

I think the concept and design of this watch is great, but I hope that Suunto is able to better incorporate some "painful" product testing before you market something to the military who will depend on it.

My PGA Instructor recommended PivotPro to me. I have to tell you this is a great teaching aid - I absolutely love it, finally a teaching aid that works. It has made a huge difference in the way I load. It forces me to load properly against my braced right leg. I have added atleast 20 extra yards to my drive. I highly recommend this product.

If you want to learn about the timeless fundementals of the game. I recommend learning about the role of pivot in the game of golf, I think you cannot play or hit consistent golf shots without proper pivoting. I recommend talking to your PGA instructor and they will be able to help you with proper pivot.

PivotPro has improved my game - Now I can work on my full shots, chip shot and bunker shot with one aid -
